Trash Prefs  Reply with quote

Hi Kev!

My guess is that the workspace window is lurking somehwere beyond the boundaries of your desktop! (Just a thought: You dont have the dual display option running on a single screen do you?)

Once simple way to fix this would be trash the preference files of Pro Tools, thereby resetting it (the best part about troubleshooting on a mac!). By resetting I mean, it would be something like a fresh installation of Pro Tools.

To reset the preferences, go to the Mac OSX Drive>Users>User Name>Library>Preferences and delete the file 'Pro Tools 7.4 Preferences' and another one named 'Pro Tools.M-powered.plist'(or PT.M-Powered.plist - something to that effect, cant really remember the exact name!)

Or you can download the free ProTools Prefs & Database Helper which is an app that will delete all these files for you with just a click of a button.

Hope this helps and let us know!

Thanks for the replie conquistadore, It does sound like it could have been floating around the desk top somewhere, but cant find it??, it greys out every screen thats on the desk top when workspace is clicked on, but wont show its self??????, Embarassed i downloaded and run the program below, but its still not there!, Will a full re install help me...and will i lose everything??

see my problem is i purchased 7.1 then updated with a download to 7.4 (purchased) i did save the image of the download to disk, so if i reinstall will it allow me to add the upgrade disk or will i have to pay to upgrade again....
Sorry to sound like a fool but macs are very different from what im used to.. Rolling Eyes
And if i do will this happen again, i seem to be having nothing but trouble with macs and pro tools.

Thanks for all your time and help,

Kev.

7.1 pref interfering?  Reply with quote

This is odd!

Just to confirm, did you trash the Pro Tools 7.4 Preference and com.digidesign.protools.plist? Also the Volumes and Database folders?

If that didnt work, go to your Mac HDD>Users>User Name>Library>Preferences and trash the Pro Tools 7.1 Preference file if its still there.

Also after you ran that app did you empty the trash? I' had a problem with the workspace once (wasnt showing one of the firewire drives) and I kept trashing preferences without emptying the trash! It bounced back to normalcy after the trash was emptied..

7.4  Reply with quote

Glad it worked! Smile

7.4 has some real good features (especially with the workspace window), hope you enjoy it!

How long have you been using PT? And what are you using it with?

License  Reply with quote

To reply to your earlier question, if you download and reinstall Pro Tools, you wouldnt have to pay for it since the license is stored on your iLok. The upgrade fee is a one time fee you had to pay - unless you lose your iLok and dont have one of those cover plans from iLok.com!
