I get a delayed monitor sound when I tried to record audio with Nero, Sonar 5 and Roxio. I monitored what I was playing and the sound that comes out of my headphone is delayed from the time I played it. It's the same too when I use the microphone of my computer when I chat with friends. hi there,
the problem you are talking about is latency. its the time it takes for your computer to digitize audio, process it and output it again. the way to reduce this is to reduce your buffer size. you should go as low as possible generally before clicks and pops in the sound start to occur. you will need a decent soundcard to reduce the latency as generally the built in onboard sound cards dont give you the ability to adjust buffer size.
search around on the internet for drivers for your card.

Thank you very much for your response Paul. I am using an Acer Aspire 5040 laptop and my sound card driver is Realtek. I am learning how to record my own music on this computer. I did what you said and I tried to lower the buffer when I was using Sonar 5 and it lessens the problem but the sound didn't come out good. I had the chance of recording the bass part of my friends own music a few years ago and the studio was using a computer too. The sound there was perfect. Could you help me again and teach me what I should do to make it work? Can you recommend something that I should maybe add to my computer? Again, I thank you so much and best regards.
