I am looking for thoughts and opinions on a clinically clean (Millenia, Grace Designs) mic-pre or one that exhibits characteristic warmth or colour (Neve, Focusrite etc). I already have a nice tube mic-pre and am looking for a solid-state pre.
Any suggestions, experiences, recommendations are appreciated. I obviously am interested in a preamp that will give me the most bang for the buck. Speaking of which, I will spend about $1,750 on the machine. Although, not necessarily interested in EQ, Comp/Lim, DeEsser etc (i.e. channel strip) whatever on the preamp. I have an idea of the units I am thinking about, but would prefer uncoloured advice. Thanks in advance.

As you already have a tube pre id go for something more clinical, and you cant get more clinical than the Millenia HVC-3. I use it regularly and its pretty spectacular in just how clean and transparent it is.
