| What is musical gear? |
|
|
I am not sure where this one belongs, so I set it here.
My question is for everyone. I always read about certain gear being very "musical" sounding. Like compressors, mic-pres, EQs etc. It comes from producers, engineers etc and the may say "that is a very musical sounding EQ, compressor etc.
So, just what does that mean to you? Is it great replication? A natural sound? I just don't know. I look forward to as many comments as possible so in the future I will know what that means. I know what it means to me, but not everyone else. Thanks for the help.
cheers

pretty much a marketing term thats thrown around really. basically just sounds good musically, perhaps introduces musical harmonics into the sound etc.
no terms like that are black and white. |

The problem with words such as these is that they are very subjective. My interpretation of 'musical' would be that the processor is very subtle in its effect and sounds 'easy' on the ears. Something like the Waves L1 wouldnt be classified as musical!
