I am seeking to phase-cancel an annoying hum from a nearby electrical box. Is there a practical way to set up a mic and amp to accomplish this? thanks!
Paul Bruski - leading voice audio post engineer and chief engineer with In Your Ear Studios is a careful man.

His work demands absolute concentration and an ear for the minutiae as he records voices for hit TV shows, including Family Guy and The Cleveland Show as well as narration for documentaries, ADR for movies, ads for radio/tv and much more.

"I bought the VT-2 via Studio Logic Sound (Riegelsville, PA) for a lot of the sessions that I work on " Bruski comments: "Projects that I work on vary greatly and I really wanted a mic pre that would manage all these applications with outstanding performance"

Seems he got his wish with the VT-2!

He adds: " The VT-2 can handle the extreme dynamic range of an actor doing ADR while having the smooth warmth for recording voice-overs. It also has a wonderfully transparent clarity that is ideal for recording vocals"

Taking the VT-2 in for a demo initially, Bruski compared it to some of the other Class A mic pres In Your Ear already have installed.

He continues: "Right away I knew this was the best tool for the job. I now use the VT-2 every day and since we put it in the rack I have instilled a new confidence within myself that I'm going to capture every performance as well as it can be recorded."

In addition to current TV hits like The Cleveland Show and HBO’s Big Love, Bruski has also recently worked on commercials for clients such as Nike, Heineken, Humana, Volkswagen, Walmart, and TNT among many others.
I have not gotten an audio interface yet (need some more $$) ANy suggestions on how much I could pay for decent soundcard and, more importantly, how I could successfully record vocals using the mic in my mac recorded on Logic Pro.

I know the quality will suffer quite a bit recording this way, but are there any techniques I could use where I can get the best possible rec?

I am currently living in the UK and am wanting to go back to school and join an audio engineering program. I'm hoping to move back to Canada (school for international students over here ain't cheap!) and join a program for Fall 2010. Have heard from a few different sources that it is unwise to spend lots of money and invest lots of time in schooling (better to dive into the industry) but I do want to touch up on my skills, gain some solid credentials and maybe some networking contacts along the way. Looking for a shorter program (was thinking no more than a year). Any ideas on what are good schools I should be looking at?

From my research so far, I've narrowed down to TARA in Toronto, MOSMA in Winnipeg, and PAVI in Vancouver. OIART also looks like it has a pretty awesome program but the cost is pretty high ($29000 tuition). ANY advice, ANY feedback on any of these (or other schools) would be greatly appreciated. They all claim to be the best so it would be awesome to hear from someone who's actually been or has some advice.

Also, Anyone have advice on scholarships offered for any Canadian Audio Engineering schools? Anyone had success with certain scholarships in the past?

Sorry for the length... Thanks a bunch and hope to hear from ya!
Andy Scade (Simply Red, Snow Patrol etc) has been working with D.W. Fearn gear for as long as he can remember.

"I've been tracking with the VT-2 Pre-Amps for some time and love using them on everything from vocals and bass to drum and guitar recording - for that polished expensive sound you get from D.W. Fearn gear."

High praise indeed from one of the UK's premier recording engineers and programmers, whose resume of bands and hits include Simply Red, Snow Patrol, The Divine Comedy and Tom Jones plus many, many more.

Based at South East London's The Music Bank, Andy is currently working on new Simply Red material and has been mixing for Snow Patrol whilst continuing his love affair with D.W. Fearn's astonishing tube gear. Following the recommendation from a respected colleague to try out the VT-7 Compressor, he auditioned the unit along with some other compressors and never looked back.

"I chose the VT-7," he states, "as it seems as at-home on tracking individual instruments as it does over a whole mix. It's not like any compressor I've ever used before, and brings something very unique to the table. It really is like having very fast hands on a fader, and then some.

"The VT-7 is a totally transparent compression unit - ideal for gluing your mix together without coloring the sound or transients, and keeping tracking in check while bringing a warmth and pleasing top-end to the sound."
Posted: Tue Feb 23, 2010 2:30 am

Blu-ray as a new disc format has greater storage capacity, faster reading ad writing speed, and more safe data storage function. It becomes more and more popular in nowadays. However, there are so many Blu-ray products, then how to choose the right Blu-ray Ripper? In order to solve this problem,Through making efforts to search, study, test, and analyze on numerous Blu-ray rippers, finally, according to my test results and customers'comments, I've summarized 4 of them which seem powerful and useful by comparison on its price, main functions and additional functions, and I hope it will facilitate everyone to get a more thorough understanding about Blu-ray Ripper.

Do you need rip Blu-ray? With the Prosperity of Blu-ray market, many software development companies have seized this opportunity and developed Blu-ray Ripper. With Blu-ray Ripper, you can rip Blu-ray to almost all the formats you need, such as AVI, DivX, XviD, DVD, WMV, MPEG4 MOV, MKV, FLV on more portable players, like iPod, iPhone, Gphone, Apple TV, PSP/PS3, Xbox, Mobile Phone, Mp3 Player. You can find many products of this kind by searching on the net. However, do these Blu-ray Rippers have the same quality and function? It is hard for ordinary consumers to distinguish the true from the false. For this reason, I write this article to instruct you how to rip Blu-ray reasonably.

From the table above, we can see there is no much difference among the three soft wares in price. But the comparison to the main functions made an obvious gap among them. We can see BestHD
Blu-ray Ripper
has the most direct operating procedures. We can install and run it directly after purchasing. However, Xilisoft Blu-ray Ripper and AVCWare Blu-ray Ripper cannot do this. You have to buy third-party software (Any DVD) before installing and running your Blu-ray. We can see it in the screen shots below. By comparison, Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper lacks some functions that BestHD
Blu-ray Converter
has, namely, it does not support Button visualization explanation,Automatic shut down. And in the four software,
BestHD Blu-ray Ripper
with powerful, small footprint, easy to operate, occupy large Blu-ray market.

( Xilisoft Blu-ray Ripper)

( AVCWare Blu-ray Ripper)

The price for Any DVD is from $100 to $150(it depends on the using time you choose). That is to say, except BestHD Blu-ray Ripper, Xilisoft Blu-ray Ripper and AVCWare Blu-ray Ripper cannot rip Blu-ray dependently, that is the most fundamental reason why their operating cost is much higher than BestHD Blu-ray Ripper.

Moreover, take movie “Water Horse” for example; the reading speed of BestHD Blu-ray Ripper for this movie is less than one second. But Xilisoft Blu-ray Ripper and AVCWare Blu-ray Ripper will take users more than 2 minutes to read, much slower than BestHD Blu-ray Ripper.

I tested these four soft wares for many times, so to sum up, I think BestHD Blu-ray Ripper has the highest cost performance. It will be the best choice for users. As for Xilisoft Blu-ray Ripper, AVCWare Blu-ray Ripper and Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper, they are less satisfactory than BestHD Blu-ray Ripper.I really hope this passage could do you a favor on buying Blu-ray Ripper. All right, since this comparison is only done by myself, I’m sure there must be flaws and imperfections. Thus any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

then youll need to enable song mode(not pat). after that hit the record button(it turns orange and brings up a pop up menu)

Click Audio, into the playlist as an audio clip then press the play button and you into a recording sesssion. if you are stisfied hit stop (but you will notice the orange button is still on so just hi it and you are done)
