Duncan James Rose" I was at a stage in my life where I needed a career change and always wanted to do something with music. I was gradually building up a home studio and whilst I could find my way around the equipment I wanted to be able to use everything to its full potential and hopefully either set up my own studio or gain employment in a studio somewhere. I searched far and wide on the internet and at local colleges for a suitable course but going to college a few days a week just was not practical and was very expensive. I chose Audiocourses because the cost of the course was very reasonable and it gave me the opportunity to fit the work in around my other committments. I also found Chris very helpful in answering my queries and sorting out any problems that occurred. This continued throughout the course. The live workshops were really good as well - learning a lot in a relaxed atmosphere and sharing our knowledge with others even if Chris is not a football fan (hello Ben hope you are OK!!!!)

It was hard work and you have to be "committed to the cause" and put in the hours to get the most out of the course but I found it a really good way to learn and when I think back to what I knew before the course and what I know now, it was more than worth the time and money. I am now setting up my own studio at home and the qualification and knowledge gained has given me the self confidence to go ahead with this. If I ever need a boost of self confidence I just look up at the certificate on my studio wall in all its glory saying distinction (yes it can be done - I thought I had failed after the exam!!!!) and it makes me realise I do know what I am doing after all!!!

I would recommend the course to anyone."

Some of my work:

"Get Up"

This track started out based around the opening guitar riff that I found on a sample CD. I then found the guitar riffs for chorus and put them all together. The vocal is also off a sample CD I have had for years - I managed to put together various lines that make some sort of sence (I think). The synth plinks and plops are of plug in synths. EQing the guitars was a real pain to get the separation - I got a reasonable result but not yet fully happy with it.

"A Perfect Shoreline"

This is my Ibiza chill out track. It came about from a free plug in synth I got off the internet that generates random basslines. This is the main bass and lead part that comes in at the beginning and continues throughout the track.

"The Below"

This is a pretty straight forward dance track with all the usual cliches in there but hey its good when you have had a few!!!!!!

"Dance Like That"

Anyone who has done the sound engineering course will probably be aware and likely to never forget "Stuff Like That" - a track we had to mix from raw audio files. I went one stage further and did a dance remix of it. I actually just took a few of the vocal lines and mashed them up a bit and fitted them to the music I had written for "The Below" and it worked quite well I think.

Saleh Y. Hamed - username solhamed

Country: United Arab Emirates

I live in Abu Dhabi (south of Dubai) in the UAE and have been working with bands for the last five years. Due to the fact that there are no independent studious out here or even producers or engineers I set out to build my own studio and slowly progressed from using Acid 2.0 to Pro-tools.

For someone living in the middle east who wants to work in music production and recording, Audiocourses was the only way to go. Luckily, it was also very beneficial and introduced me to alot of concepts and techniques both from within the courses' syllabus and from without. It can be difficult pushing yourself to complete the course since alot of it is completed by the student in solitude but there is no greater satisfaction than getting your certificate in the mail and knowing that at least 90% of the reason you managed to do it was personal desire and perseverence. The fellows at audiocourses where very helpful and always available to talk about anything related to music. IT truely is the community that you get introduced to via Audiocourses that warrants the participation.
